Cameras in Classrooms
…sunshine is the best disinfectant…
Police wears cameras now. We have cameras in our legislatures. We have cameras in our courtrooms.
It’s time to put cameras in our classrooms.
Wouldn’t you like to know what’s going in our schools? You know you do.
Call me crazy but I’d like to know if a teacher is telling second graders about their favorite sex act. I’d like to know if they are telling kids they are bad because of their skin color. I’d like to know if teachers are denigrating the country paying their salary. Hell, I’d like to know if they are teaching kids to actually read, write, and learn basic science.
But that’s an invasion of privacy, they will say.
Is it?
I think parents would like to know what’s going on in their kid’s classrooms every day. What kind of education are we getting for the hundreds of billions of tax dollars? According to world statistics American schools get far more money than schools in any other country and turn out more poorly educated kids. Maybe we should see firsthand just what teachers are teaching the future leaders of this country.
We can’t. There’s no money. Sure there is. The schools are already wired for the internet and most schools already have security cameras outside the school. The cost would be negligible. A decent video camera runs less than $100. Hell, a lot of companies would probably donate cameras if they could place a Pepsi sign next to it.
What about kids privacy? Blur the lens.
But it’s not the money, or privacy. The teachers don’t want cameras for the same reason police did not want to be burdened with chest cameras. They don’t want to be held accountable. But cops have gotten used to having them and in many cases it’s saved them from legal repercussions.
The teachers and the unions do not want to be held accountable and they will fight tooth and nail to stop this. But that does not mean we should not go forward. If cameras are good enough for judges, politicians, and cops, it’s good enough for teachers.
Let’s get it done and start fixing our schools before we lose another generation of kids.
Fight the Hive.
